Safety Tip of the Week
Lying Eyes
At
a recent SMART class we were asked in one of the class room
sessions, “What is the most important thing to do for at
intersections?” The officer’s answer was, much to my dismay, was
make eye contact. These guys are pros and I humbly admit they are
better riders than me. That being said, I strongly disagree.
If you a see a car or truck on
a side street or driveway that could potentially pull out in front
of you, keep your eyes on the front wheels. If you see the
front wheels start to roll then you know the car’s on the move and
could potentially pull out in front of you.
I don’t understand why so many
bikers who have had a car pull out in front of them claim to have
made eye contact with the driver and are in shock that the driver
pulled out. I hardly see the drivers face because I’m
watching those wheels as if my life depends on it. Maybe once
you make eye contact with the dreaded cager, he holds you in a
trance as he tries to kill you… it’s that old vampire trick!
Don’t believe their lying
eyes!
Road Captains
New Sheriff in town
Bob Bloom is our new Head Road Captain, and doing a
fine job I might add. Please make sure he gets all the sign in sheets and
contact him to make any changes in rides such as leads, sweeps,
times and locations. You may contact him at headroadcaptain@ancientcityhog.com.

Ride 365
2018 is over. Its
time to get that mileage documented for next years contest. Lets
show the other chapters in Florida who rides! By the way, you can go to any dealer to get your
mileage documented.
SMART - Smart
Motorcycle And Riding Technique
This is the FDOT
funded class taught by police and sheriff motor officers. It is a
similar format to some of the commercially taught classes that
begin with Ride Like A … I think this is actually better and
it is free, well paid for by tax dollars. Nothing is free. More
instructors, more room, more cones, more personal hands on
instructions. Gainesville Police got their funding again and will
begin classes again in January. Watch the calendar and
future newsletters for details.

Thanks
Thanks Mark for leading
on a nice 94 mile ride to Tony's and thanks Fred for sweeping. The
weather was excellent, got to love Florida. The meal was
great and the garlic knots were a real treat. A side note, I
heard that Daytona, and our sister chapters cancelled their rides
because of clouds, I mean weather? So proud of our chapter, who are
the real riders?
Inspiration
“Even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving
forward.”—Victor Kiam
This
quote shows that a failure is not the end of the world. When you
try and fail, you're still moving forward. It’s better to risk
failure than not do anything at all..
