Safety Tip of the Week
Fast vs. Hurry
Back in the day we used to trash our helmets with stickers we got at Bike Week. Some were shocking but could be profound. One of my favorites was, “I don’t mind going fast, it’s the crashing and burning that sucks.”

A better way to say that is, “It’s okay to ride fast but never in a hurry.” Fast is any speed that provides feelings of exhilaration that a lower speed will not. Those sensations can be enjoyed within a framework of discipline and sound strategies, but hurrying – racing the clock, ignoring fundamentals – opens you to all sorts of hazards your normal defense system would normally deflect.

Tip From Bob
Bob offers a group riding tip. Start ride with a full tank and an empty bladder.

Road Captains

New Sheriff in town
Bob Bloom is our new Head Road Captain, and doing a fine job I might add.  Please make sure he gets all the sign in sheets and contact him to make any changes in rides such as leads, sweeps, times and locations. You may contact him at headroadcaptain@ancientcityhog.com.

HOG Stuff
Ride 365
2018 is over. Its time to get that mileage documented for next years contest. Lets show the other chapters in Florida who rides! By the way, you can go to any dealer to get your mileage documented.

SMART - Smart Motorcycle And Riding Technique
This is the FDOT funded class taught by police and sheriff motor officers. It is a similar format to some of the commercially taught classes that begin with Ride Like A …   I think this is actually better and it is free, well paid for by tax dollars. Nothing is free. More instructors, more room, more cones, more personal hands on instructions. Gainesville Police got their funding again and will begin classes again in January.   Watch the calendar and future newsletters for details.

Thanks Charles for leading on a nice 92 mile ride to Rosey's and thanks Lyle for sweeping. And to despite  rumors to the contrary, the RaceTrac at SR 207 and I-95 still sells gas.

Inspiration

“What we fear doing most is usually what we most need to do.”— Tim Ferriss

Instead of feeling bad about being fearful of something, you can use those feelings to figure out what is most important to you. Fear can help you get anything accomplished because it requires moving past the fear to meet your goals.
