Safety Tip of the Week

Leaning? or Counter-Steering

Counter-steering is probably the most misunderstood yet valuable motorcycle skill of all. Most people with any experience at all were probably taught that you have to lean on a motorcycle to make it turn. A motorcycle does turn by leaning but it is not your body leaning that does it.

Counter-steering is pushing on the handle bar in the direction you want to go: push left, go left – push right go right. Spoiler alert, when you lean into a curve, it’s not your body leaning that’s making the bike turn but the passive act of pushing on the handle bar as we corner the bike. So we all are counter-steering whether we realize it or not. The problem is, leaning by shifting your body is the most inefficient way to handle your bike. If you will try active counter-steering, in other words initiating the turn by pushing on the handle bar, you will notice the bike responding sooner and with much more control.

Tri-Chapter Picnic - Update

Thanks for all your ideas. However it has been brought to my attention that it is supposed to be a "picnic" instead of an "event". I still thought maybe I could sell it to the other directors and then go to Missy. I could not, it didn't get past the other directors. So picnic it is. The possible good news is they are on board with having it at the new dealership.
And for the members who help at the activities meetings, the time that suits all three chapters is a fourth Saturday. Let's hope that dealership gets open soon.

Monthly Meeting

Meeting for will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the VFW-6184 US 1 South, St. Augustine. Please join us for coffee at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.  A short ride to Brisky's BBQ in St. Augustine will follow.

Riding Into History May 11, 2019

After the meeting, and after the ride to Brisky's, if you are not ready to pack it in, don't forget the Riding Into History event at World Golf Village.  Bob will be leading a ride there.

Inspiration

Someday is not a day of the week.

It is easy to put things off to the vague "someday." But this is a method of procrastinating and fooling yourself into believing your goals will happen without planning for them. If something is really important to you, set a specific deadline for it.

Please Share - Send us stories and member info to share with your Chapter Friends and then see it here!  Just shoot it via email to:  director@ancientcityhog.com
