Safety Tip of the Week

Are We Cattle?

This one concerns interstate riding. Do you ever find yourself while riding the interstate, in what an old movie coined, a “convoy”? Going down the road probably over the speed limit among twenty or thirty other cars and eighteen wheelers all bunched up on each other’s bumpers is not the most desirable place to ride; especially on a motorcycle.

A Florida Highway Patrolman once shared that to his amazement, people are like cattle and they evidently like to be in herds. He decided this as he was running radar. He would be on a patch of interstate and there would be no traffic for several minutes. Then all of a sudden, here would come a herd. This herd would pass, and several minutes would go by before the next herd would show up. He said he couldn’t understand why people would rather be in a herd instead of simply adjusting their speed and having their own little, safer piece of the road.

If this is ever you, try to ditch the herd mentality. You have a choice.

Tri-Chapter Picnic - Update

Keep those ideas coming in. The May meeting is the last meeting before the activities meeting which is June 2. The plan was to vote at the next meeting for  where when and what we were going to do. I have been informed however, we may have to have a picnic. I thought it was up to us but it has been brought to my attention that it has always been a picnic at Adamec's request. I'll see what I can do and run it by Missy and the other directors and see if we can change this to a Tri-Chapter "event" instead of a "picnic". We'll have fun regardless.

Monthly Meeting
Meeting for will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the VFW-6184 US 1 South, St. Augustine. Please join us for coffee at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting begins at 9:30 a.m.  A short ride to Brisky's BBQ in St. Augustine in will follow.

Riding Into History May 11, 2019
After the meeting, and after the ride to Brisky's, if you are not ready to pack it in, don't forget the Riding Into History event at World Golf Village. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our road captains lead a ride there.

Up and Coming

Annual Chapter Picnic - May 4

Well the time has passed for signing up for the clubs annual picnic. We have 40 signed up, 35 members and 5 guests. If you signed up and are going, please see Debora for payment. She is collecting from the members and will explain how much Saturday. The club is subsidizing part of it and I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised. If you are bringing a guest (they must have be signed up also of course), please pay Debora the member amount and pay for your guest at the register. We will be at the staging area to collect from those going on the ride and then we will go straight to the restaurant to collect from those riding separately or in vehicles.

LOH

Ladies please tell your husbands. For those who don't like to drive at night or alone, if you want to come to an LOH event, have your husband bring you and Terry will come and keep them company. Last LOH event at Corkey Bells, eight guys show up and had a blast. We had our LOH party and they had our rooster party. Terry's already looking forward to the next LOH event. He said maybe they should get our own patch. ROLOH. Roosters Of Ladies Of Harley. And a special thanks to Julie for being such an awesome hostess.

Inspiration

Do what you can, where you are, with what you have. - Teddy Roosevelt

Take a look around and look around to see what you can do with what you have. Don't spend your time thinking about the things you don't have. Work on your endeavors, and you will realize you have what you need to accomplish big things.
