Immediate Attention Required
By
now I hope everyone knows about signing a new waiver if it is dated
after December 1. By the way there has been some confusion, but the
waiver is still part of the enrollment form, so there is just one
form. If you are not sure if you are affected, Jere has provided a
link on our website with all the members names. If your name is not
highlighted in green, please supply us with a new form.
I
am providing a hyperlink to download the Membership Enrollment Form and Waiver. If
this doesn’t work for you, you can also find it on our website http://www.ancientcityhog.com/ click Forms and
Documents.
Remember
you must have a waiver signed before you can go on your next ride.
Our Road Captains and Officers will also have a list of those not
in compliance and some forms with them. It would be an incredible
time saver though if each would download their own form and
have it already filled out before the next ride or meeting. Or, if
you like you can also mail them to one of the two address on the
link.
I
apologize for this inconvenience but appreciate everyone’s
cooperation in helping us get this done as soon as possible.
Safety Tip of the Week
One one thousand, two one thousand.
At
HOG officers training the speaker, in HOG’s new concerns for new
riders being traumatized, talked about the one second two second
rule. He shared his own traumatic experience of group riding. He
said he was so nervous after repeating the mantra,” one one
thousand, two one thousand” that by the end of the day and
repeating the mantra so many times, he was a nervous wreck and
didn’t enjoy the ride. I don’t think I would have admitted that but
since it is out there, perhaps this subject should be revisited,
for any new group riders.
I
believe if everyone understands the purpose, it can become a good
practice instead of a rule. The purpose is simply to allow us to
ride in a group formation. The distance from the bike ahead should
be far enough back to be able to safely react to it. Remember, the
two seconds is reaction time, not stopping time.
Yet
we want to be close enough to the bike ahead as to not encourage
cars to cut into our group. That’s it in a nutshell. The one one
thousand two one thousand test is fine a few times each day but I
think a better idea is to ask yourself two questions. “Can I react
to the bike ahead, and am I letting cars into our group?”
And
by the way, if someone really thinks this is too stressful, this is
taught in the basic MSF class. Also since Harley has always based
their training on MSF, as they should, Rider's Edge taught this and
so now does Harley Academy. It has been the standard for 37 years.
Tri-Chapter Picnic
- Update
I really want to thank everyone for their suggestions
on the Tri - Chapter event of which we are responsible for this
year. I have asked for suggestions and you guys are really coming
through. For those who missed the meeting or maybe even new members
who don't know what I'm talking about, every year we are required
by our dealer to have an event that includes all three chapters.
Each chapter takes turns hosting the event and this year it falls
on us. In the past it has been a picnic and members from all three
chapters have complained that they are tired of the same old picnic
at the same old place, and participation has been falling off.
So your
complaints are not falling on deaf ears. Lets change it up. This is
your chapter so I am not going to be the one who decides. I will
take suggestions until the next activities meeting which is in June
and we will have a vote on the best ideas. So please keep the
suggestions coming in.
Ideas so
far have been: a cook out at the new dealer with skills contests
between the chapters, a bowling tournament, a paddle wheel boat
cruise with a meal out of Sanford, a buffet at Shrimp-R-Us, an
event at Rodeheavers Boys Ranch with them doing the cooking,
a picnic but at a new location; Ravine Gardens has been suggested,
an over nighter; Savannah, Crystal River and even Key West has been
suggested. Here's one I would like to throw into the pot; a chili
cook off with competition also including deserts. Keep them coming
guys and I'll keep posting them.

LOH
Guys, if you are the
only one in your household that gets or reads this newsletter,
please share the LOH part with your wife or girl friend. Some of
the ladies are missing out on some fun activities because don't
know about them. You can also go to the LOH Facebook page for the
latest updates.
There is a LOH link on our website.
While at the officers
training session I have heard that some of the ladies that ride are
offended that we have LOH. They have complained that we even
have an LOH. They feel that they are not being treated
"the same" and wonder why we have this
"division". I, personally, do not feel this is a
"division". I think this part of the club brings us
all together. I LOVE LOH and believe it is necessary for the
unity of the club. I LOVE that we try to get together every
month. I LOVE my Ladies of Harley. I think all of you
are amazing and you make our club a better place to be. THANK
YOU for stepping up every month and planning something! THANK
YOU for stepping up and being part of the progressive dinner!
THANK YOU to all the ladies that ride their own bike and those of
us that ride with our husbands. THANK YOU ladies, for just
showing up. Debora

Thanks
Thanks to Charles and Jere for leading and
sweeping to the Surf Restaurant at Fernandina Beach on Amelia
Island. The food and good fun was there as always in addition to
being one of the most beautiful places to visit in our area. For
those that did it, the ferry ride and ride down A1A was an
extra treat. Thank you Frank for your part in that.
