Happy New Year

Safety Tip of the Week
Wind Chill

January 1 is a good time to be thinking about wind chill, even in Florida. Unfortunately wind chill is not a scientific measurement. Simply put it is the human perception of cold caused by air blowing across naked skin. It takes no account of body moisture, humidity, rain, clouds, a covered head or even individual resistance to cold. However it is of utmost interest to motorcyclists because of the obvious nature of riding. Below is one of the many fun but worthless charts. Check out 45 degree and 65 mph. Remember the onset of hyperthermia causes effects similar to riding impaired.

Road Captains
New Sheriff in town
Starting today we have a new Head Road Captain, Bob Bloom.  Please make sure he gets all the sign in sheets and contact him to make any changes in rides such as leads, sweeps, times and locations. You may contact him at headroadcaptain@ancientcityhog.com. Bob, please start checking your new email.

Ride 365
2018 is over. Its time to get that mileage documented for next years contest. Lets show the other chapters in Florida who rides!

SMART - Smart Motorcycle And Riding Technique
This is the FDOT funded class taught by police and sheriff motor officers. It is a similar format to some of the commercially taught classes that begin with Ride Like A …   I think this is actually better and it is free, well paid for by tax dollars. Nothing is free. More instructors, more room, more cones, more personal hands on instructions. Gainesville Police got their funding again and will begin classes again in January. I will be leading a ride to one on January 19. Watch the calendar and future newsletters for details.

Tid Bits
Thanks
A big thanks to Marc and Bob for taking us on the tear end ride to the Yearling. That pun was not planned. It was a good ride in spite of a little rain. It was cold so I didn't even see anybody put on rain suits when we stopped at Salt Springs. The food is always good here especially because of the choices you just don't find at most restaurants; frog legs, duck, quail and the venison is as tender as a mothers love.

It was a great ending to a great year. Looking forward to a new year which actually begins with a ride. Be sure to join ACH as we bring in the new year on two wheels. I'm sorry I can't make this one but hope to see you soon.

Inspiration
It's not the destination or the journey. It's the seatmate.

When you're traveling with the right person, the miles fly by and time melts away. It's only in looking back that you realize just how far you've come together.
