Safety Tip Of The Week
Do We Have To do The Math?
It occurred to me in all this talk about what percentage of braking the front brake should be, to people who aren’t using their front brake, this could be confusing. People talk about Harleys being 70% front 30% rear, lighter bikes such as “crotch rockets”, 80% - 20%, performance bikes  90%-10%. ( I hope you are noticing which ever bike you are talking about the heaviest emphasis is on the front.)  Many racers don’t even use the rear brake at all! I just read an article that was actually trying to convince racers to use 3% rear.
Allow me to clarify this. You do not have to worry about the math. You don’t have to try to use one brake a certain percentage and the other brake  another.  What this all means is, as you apply both brakes and the suspension and physics  does its job, the weight will shift toward the front wheel. As long as you are putting adequate pressure on both controls physics will take over and the percentages happen not because of what you have done but by forces that can actually be measured using formulas. Put another way:
The only thing slowing the motorcycle down is the transfer of force between the road, and the contact patch of the tire on the road.
That force, which the tire makes with the road, is very simplistic...  It is composed of only three things, the weight pushing down on the tire, some number that makes up for the stickiness of the tire, and the terrain it is on.  A sticky tire on good pavement, a high number; a normal tire on ice, a low number.
Since that force on the tire is highly dependent on the weight on that tire, the amount of braking that the tire can do is directly related to the weight imparted on the tire.
So there you have the reason for the percentages. As the weight shifts forward, the front wheel weighs more and does a higher percentage of the braking force and the rear wheel weighs less and can do less, dangerously less.
Thankfully we don’t have to do any math!

Christmas Party
Ameci's 12/08/2018
The highly anticipated Christmas Party has come and gone. If you missed it you really missed a fun time so typical of our chapter. We really packed it all in, food, music, slide shows, refreshments, awards, recognitions, prizes, gifts, dancing, fellowship and a delicious cake for dessert. What really struck me about this party and our group was, we had 48 people show up.... There was hardly a handful who didn't actually work and do something to make this happen. Even after it started, I'm amazed and thankful to the people who kept coming up and asking what they could do or if there was anything I needed. I shouldn't be amazed as this is really typical of our chapter!  Seriously, if I were to thank everyone who helped, the number would be in the 40's. It would bore and put to sleep the ones who didn't come so I'll just say, "Thanks Guys and Gals." You know who you are and you are appreciated.!
I also want to thank the Adamec family and those who represent them for coming and furnishing the wonderful door prizes.

Gift Wrapping
Yesterday Deb and I wrapped gifts at Orange Park, leading by example? Hint, hint. A hard act to follow after the Christmas Party but we made the best of a rainy day. In addition to making a whopping eleven dollars for the chapter, we got 100 bonus points for volunteering and over 600 more points for purchases. Again they are doubled for volunteers. We figured it was the best time to buy that rain suit and a few shirts. Also qualified to get the Harley Davidson decanter they've been advertising. We met some nice people and talked to a few more. Sometimes we have to give back. The following is a link to the open slots. Perhaps someone may want to create a breakfast, lunch or dinner ride. It may be a way for me to break Fred's record of 53 rides in one year. I have 50 and there is still three more weeks left.  Shouldn't have told me that so soon dude, lol.

Big Thanks
I know I've already said this but it can't be said to many times, thanks to all who made the Christmas Party possible. Also, in honesty, Big Thanks is part of the newsletter integrity that helps me not to leave anything out each week.
