Safety Tip Of The week
Give it the finger
Since becoming a Safety Officer I realize I have made way too many assumptions. Namely, I assumed that in this day and age everyone was using the front brake,....even correctly. Years ago I've heard many MSF instructors say the hardest part of their job with "old school bikers" was getting them to break the two finger braking habit. In those days people who were taught to ride by their father, brother, uncle, etc. taught them if you just used two fingers you couldn't over use the front brake.
Assumption number two, was people were at least using two fingers on the front brake. I understand now there are those who aren't using any front brake at all. Perhaps they somehow fell into a void and missed the "old school" two finger teaching and yet also have somehow missed taking an MSF course. Or maybe they are like the poor individual who thinks there is a technology gremlin who controls the brakes  for you.
Whatever the reason, it occurred to me that if you fall in this category, two fingers are better than none. I may get some flak over this one so allow me to emphasize that I am in no way encouraging two finger braking! I want you to use all fingers. However if you are one of these individuals that aren't using any front brake at all, at least start by using two until you see that bad things are not going to happen. Then try three, with the ultimate goal of getting the full benefit of using the front brake by using all fingers.

Tid Bits

Gears In The Engine
A special thanks to all the officers and road captains who spent part of their Sunday to participate in the officers and activities meeting. You are all gears that make our machine work. Good chapters don't run themselves. It takes hard work and you are all appreciated.  Thanks to the road captains, many who are also officers. I think it was the best road captain turnout I've seen since I've been a member. Thanks Kathy for running the activities part, and we know after the meeting is over, your work really begins. Thanks Jere. Since becoming director, I realize he works on ACH every single day! And he's also a road captain.  Thanks Ruth for handling our finances. Thanks to Fred and Frank for becoming officers again. Your past experience and knowledge is already paying off. Thanks  Cliff, Kurt, Bob and Debora for signing on, and Merle for staying on. A special thanks to Ralph for submitting rides even though he couldn't make the meeting. What a guy. We haven't forgotten all he did concerning our taxes either. Well now that I've started I just don't want to leave anyone out. Thanks Scott for taking care of our merchandise. And lastly, thanks to those who have served before me to make this chapter something I would want to become a part of. Well, what could have been, "thanks for coming last night" turned into way more, I just want everyone to know they are appreciated. Hope I didn't leave anyone out.

Big Thanks
Thanks to Jere for stepping in as Road Captain for Steve at the last moment. Thanks again for changing the destination at the last minute because of the weather which still got changed again. Only Jere and other Road Captains  know the planning it takes to plan these rides. Then to change the destination to keep from canceling the ride takes a whole new level of dedication. All was not lost as two of enjoyed breakfast at The Spot which was a new destination for me.
