Safety Tip Of
The week
Squeeze An Orange......and
Black. As in Owners Manual
Last
week after the news letter I got an email from a member correcting
me on my safety tip. I read in horror the member's thoughts that
Harley has somehow taken away rider control of the brakes and it
really doesn't matter which lever or pedal you use. The
member thinks that ABS technology dictates which brake and
even how much power each brake gets. I tell you about this, not to
embarrass the member, but because this is one of those myths I talk
about that can get people killed. Following is what Harley has to
say on the subject.
When the front or rear brake is actuated above
approximately 4.3 mph (7 kph mph) the system applies a proportional
amount of pressure to both brakes on the other axle. The amount of
brake pressure applied to the other axle depends upon many factors
including how hard the rider is applying the brake, the vehicle
speed, and if the vehicle is turning. The amount
of pressure electronically applied to the other axle is less than what a
rider could apply directly with the linked axle’s lever or pedal.
The linked brakes are a rider aid, and do not
replace proper braking techniques. The maximum vehicle deceleration
on most surfaces is still reached by the rider applying both the
front and rear brake controls.
I don't
know how these myths get started, but the Safety Tip of the Week
is, "Read your owners manual and don't spread the myths."

A complete
party for only $25.00 per person! BTW this is a members only price
but feel free to bring a guest for $45. It would be great to get
that non-member to join so they can be a part of all our activities
and savings for the future.
(The actual cost of this event is considerably higher, so again
your club is subsidizing a great party!)
Our old friend Doc is DJing again this year so you know the music
will be outstanding. We will be doing a Secret Santa gift
exchange again this year. (Gift value should = $15)
Participation is optional.
Please wrap all gifts. Note: the party will also serve
as our December Chapter Meeting, so Terry may address any
outstanding business issues.
There will also be a 50/50 drawing.
Appetizers, Salad, Dinner (choice of 3 main courses) and
Dessert! What more could you ask for at a great party!!!
Dinner choices are the same as last year:

Thanks
A big thanks to
everyone who showed up for my and Alan's ride to Fish Camp Lake
Eustis, forgoing football. The rabbit trails we took actually took
us by a road named nothing other that Rabbit Trail Road. The food
was good, the weather was good and the camaraderie was even better.
I'm pretty sure we took at least a couple roads that haven't been
seen before. LOL All this was shared with a new member, Brandon
Black. Welcome Brandon to Ancient City HOG.
