All Ancient City Chapter rides,
events & activities are suspended until further notice.
The time has come, perhaps a bit late, but by unanimous vote your
Primary Officers, some Secondary Officers along with some members
input "Ancient
City Chapter will not endorse, promote or actively pursue Group
Riding and other Activities until this current pandemic passes"
Here's
some obvious rational from your Primary Officers:
"My preference would be to temporarily suspend all club
activities. Socially responsible to do so given the severity
of this outbreak, rather than anything JAX & OP HOG does or
doesn't do. Nothing prevents members from arranging informally to
ride with others."
"I think it is prudent to suspend activities to help stop the
spread of this virus. I think members who want to ride will do so
individually. This is scary stuff. Stay safe,"
"This is out of concerns for the safety of our members as well
as the public image of our chapter to all those that observe our
activities. It is in times like this that we should be leading by
example from an overall organizational perspective and support the
guidelines prescribed by our government leaders. What individuals
may or may not choose to do should be entirely on them"
"Considering that things are not looking up for the near
future this is the prudent action to take. The lives we save
may be our own. If one chooses to ride please do it safely
and with respect to others as we always have done"
Many of our Chapter members have already "self-isolated"
and have indicated they will not be group riding until it's deemed
safe to do so. The number of riders has constantly decreased
over the past month and I, for one, will continue to ride but not
in a large group environment. At my age, for the sake of me
and my family, I simply can't afford to take the chance!!
We have left the Calendar open and active on the web site so if you
should decide to ride take a look at "what might have
been". Every Road Captain has put a lot of time and
pre-ride efforts into those rides and as much as it pains us to
yank the rug out from under them I know they understand. My
apologies to specifically Rodney and Wes who just recently added or
changed their upcoming rides. My thanks and gratitude goes
out to every Road Captain that has worked so hard to make us a great
Chapter!!
Our Chapter is not going totally dark, just fading into the
background for the immediate future.
You all know how to contact me and other Chapter Members if you
want, or need, to and our Facebook Page will remain open as a
source of communication between Members.
Lastly, due to this decision, there will be NO ride sign in sheets
required if you get together with a few others. No waivers,
no "nothing" as it pertains to normal Chapter
procedure. You ride at your own risk and neither the Chapter
or Harley-Davidson endorses or condones group riding until this
decision is reversed somewhere down the line.
Stay safe, remember we're all in this together and wash your hands
often!!!
Take care, I'll miss you all but only for a while I hope!!!
Fred.
