Beware It's Bike Week
This is especially dangerous time to be in the Daytona area. I wish it wasn't so. But instead of the normal courteous careful bikers we know and love we seem to be invaded by people who act like entitled bobcats let out of a cage. One thing to be especially on guard against is lane splitters. Evidently it is okay during Bike Week to pass people in their own lane at twenty mph above the speed limit. These people are in a hurry to get somewhere.

One thing I learned from an old sage years ago, and yes I know this is profiling. If their bike doesn't have a wind shield, it probably came down on a trailer. Keep your distance.

Other wise, have fun. It's Bike Week. Just be careful.

Immediate Attention Required

By now I hope everyone knows about signing a new waiver if it is dated after December 1. By the way there has been some confusion, but the waiver is still part of the enrollment form, so there is just one form. If you are not sure if you are affected, Jere has provided a link on our website with all the members names. If your name is not highlighted in green, please supply us with a new form.

I am providing a hyperlink to download the Membership Enrollment Form and Waiver.  If this doesn’t work for you, you can also find it on our website http://www.ancientcityhog.com/ click Forms and Documents.

Remember you must have a waiver signed before you can go on your next ride. Our Road Captains and Officers will also have a list of those not in compliance and some forms with them. It would be an incredible time saver though if each would download their  own form and have it already filled out before the next ride or meeting. Or, if you like you can also mail them to one of the two address on the link.

I apologize for this inconvenience but appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping us get this done as soon as possible.

Safety Tip of the Week

How To Lay It Down

Jerry Pallidino of Ride Like a Pro says anyone who had a crash and said they laid their motorcycle down on purpose is a liar. Kevin Morris of MC Rider says you can’t push a motorcycle down hard enough to lay it down. I say they are both wrong. A motorcycle can be laid down and I’m going to tell you how to do it as it was told to me.

I used to work with a guy who bought a Harley. He didn’t get his endorsement and didn’t take an MSF course; a bad combination starting out, many would agree. He “knew” he would have to lay it down someday so he decided how he would do it. He explained how he would visualize every day he was on his bike how he would do it. His day finally came. A lady made a left turn in front of him as he was pulling away from a stop sign. He stood up on his rear brake, locked his forks all the way to the right and just slid the bike down, just the way we used to do our bicycles when we were kids. He was so proud of what he did and how he laid his bike down. I wish you could see the look on his face as he was telling this story when someone asked, “Why didn’t you just stop?”

Well folks, that’s how you do it. It can be done and I believe it was done exactly how my friend said. But why would you want to? Even if I know I’m about to be in a crash, I’m going to keep the  bike upright and on both brakes shaving off as much speed as possible all the way to impact.

HOG Stuff
Ride 365
Note: registering for Ride 365 does three
things.
1. It adds to your lifetime HOG accumulation miles. For this, it doesn't matter when or how many times you register. Your lifetime miles will always be added. 2. It signs you up for the years Ride 365 mileage. For this you must registered twice in one year; once as early as possible in the year and once as late in the year as possible. Even if you registered late in December and rode tens of thousands of miles, if you only register once in the calendar year, you will get 0 miles. 3. It signs you up for the chapter challenge where we compete with other chapters across the country. If you are a member of two or more chapters you must go to the HOG members website and choose which chapter you want your miles to go to. The dealer can't do this for you.

Tidbits

Thanks
Thanks to Charles for leading us to Rodeheavers Boys Ranch for the car show, and Lyle for sweeping. A good time was had by all with a good selection of cars to drool over. A bonus was getting to see one of our own members classic car. It's a blue 29 Ford and I think it was the best looking car there, courtesy of Harold and Arlene Whitten.

Thank you Fred for planning and leading a 122 mile ride through the hills and hollers to Terry's in Ocala. When Fred says he's found new rabbit trails, people perk up. Unfortunately, a previous engagement prevented us from riding but thanks to Dropbox and BaseCamp I will be duplicating this ride in the future.
